Plan to join us for MACDL's Sixth Annual Day at the Hill on March 18th from 11:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  We will start with lunch with House Public Safety Committee Chair, Deborah Hillstrom, followed by advice and pointers on lobbying lawmakers. 

We will then split up into small groups and fan out across the Capitol to meet with our individual representatives and key lawmakers, briefing them on our 2009 agenda which includes:

Public Defender and Court Funding
Drug Sentencing Reform
Expungement Reform
Repealing or Modifying the Minnesota Patriot Act
Informant Reform
Raising Bad Check Thresholds

We will then re-convene at approximately 4:00 p.m. for a debriefing, followed by a cocktail hour at the nearby Kelly Inn.

No preparation is necessary, other than scheduling meetings with your individual Senator and Representative.  If you do not know who your congress person is or how to contact them, you can find out at http://www.leg.state.mn.us/leg/Districtfinder.asp

We will provide you with a sheet of talking points and tips on effective lobbying.  Past participants have reported they had no problem hitting the ground running and all reported having a great time.
